Every year at Camp Common Ground, men gather together for a few hours and swap stories and sentiments while lounging in Lewis Creek. In past years, we've had a "Women's Weekend" and the time has come for a men's weekend. We're inviting the guys in our community to come gather for a special, men-only retreat. Spend the weekend in a stress-free environment, explore the magic of a Vermont winter and relax by the woodstove.
The 2013 program featured the basics of blacksmithing with Steve Bronstein of Blackthorne Forge. We had a blast with Steve learning the traditional methods of blacksmithing. Men's Weekend also offers outdoor activities for those who wish to participate. Common Ground's 700-acre site is full of hiking trails perfect for trekking around on snowshoes. There will be a supply of snowshoes for men to borrow, or feel free to bring your own. If you have skis or skates, stick those in too. Our Eco-Lodge has a cozy Common Room where you can come in from the cold and enjoy the woodstove. If winter sports aren't for you, there will be planned indoor activities as well. Men are also welcome to simply hang out, read, and play games. In the evening there will be group activities and plenty of time for bonding.
All participants will stay in our new Eco-Lodge and enjoy delicious meals cooked for you. Coffee and tea (and hot chocolate!) will be available throughout the day and evening.
The weekend program fees - listed on our registration form - include all meals, guided activities, and lodging. Receive a discount $25 for each friend you recommend to Common Ground who registers for our Men’s Winter Adventure Weekend. Make sure your friends mention you when they register!
Please call our office (1-800-430-2667) to register or for more information. A winter wonderland awaits!
Steve Bronstein - Steve has been creating functional and sculptural ironwork for over 25 years. His designs strive to blend the primitive charm of ironwork with the energy and interest of more contemporary design. Relying on the qualities that make iron such a beautiful material, Steven’s pieces are both delicate and rugged. Just as the hot metal twists and bends to create beauty, so does the craft of blacksmithing itself. Steven celebrates this aspect of his art and looks forward to all of its possibilities. <span style=">Blackthorne Forge, his Marshfield Vermont workshop, is where Steve has been creating a wide variety of sculpture. His clocks, judaica, garden sculpture and home wares are available in more than 100 galleries across the country. Common Ground Center is honored to have Steve come to share his gift with the participants of our Men’s Winter Adventure Weekend.
Connor Timmons - Connor has been working in the outdoor recreation field for eight years as a facilitator, camp director, and most recently as program coordinator for Common Ground Center. His background in outdoor camping and winter sports gives him the dream job of playing in the snow for a living! Connor will be leading the higher impact snowshoeing expeditions as well as light stretching sessions.
Jim Mendell - Jim is the co-founder of Common Ground Center and an avid outdoorsman. Jim has been helping to lead the men's groups at Camp Common Ground for years and could not be more pumped to have a whole weekend with the guys. He will be leading the lower impact snowshoeing trips and helping anyone who is interested lean how to capture nature through the lens of a camera.
