The Lost Arts Week
for home schoolers and other interested folk at
Common Ground Center
September 15th—19th 2008
in Vermont

The Lost Arts week will focus on primitive skills, fiber arts, and traditional crafts. Kids will be able to choose which thread to follow, or try a combination of activities. Afternoons will offer outdoor activities and parent-led classes. Some possible class options are:

• Canning
• Soap making
• Candle making
• Rope making
• Whittling
• Structure building
• Food preservation
• Basket weaving
• Woodworking
• Knitting
• Felting
• Quilting
• Herbal remedies
• Papermaking
• Weaving
• Tanning/ Trapping
• Storytelling
• Blacksmithing demonstration

Schedule: The week will begin after lunch on Monday, September 15, and end after breakfast on Friday, September 19.

Primary Teacher Bios:
Marc Gussen
is a naturalist extraordinaire who lives the lost arts, with no TV or computer. He teaches knot tying, fire making, flint knapping, survival skills, and rope making among other things. In the winter he lives in Baja California on the beach and spears fish for food, and for fun he builds catapults. Last year he won the championship at the pumpkin chunkin competition. His catapult threw a pumpkin over a half mile.

Food and Lodging: Families can choose to tent, or stay in one of our cabins. Cabins are available on a first-come first-served basis. We offer delicious vegetarian food, local and organic when possible.

Fees: All inclusive fees are as follows:

Kids 5 and up -$330
Kids 1 to 5 -$110
Adults -$150
Toddlers under 1 -$25

• Each family will be charged a $20 non-refundable registration fee.
• Parents who wish to offer an afternoon class for tuition reduction please call the office.
• Each adult can bring up to 5 kids for the week.
